Ukrainian military intelligence has successfully carried out a high-precision strike against the headquarters of Russia’s elite Rubicon UAV unit in the occupied city of Avdiivka, in Ukraine’s Donetsk region, the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) reported on Tuesday.
The strike hit a command center set up in a partially destroyed building used by Rubicon, a Russian unit specializing in unmanned aerial systems and combat drones. According to the HUR, Rubicon is considered one of Russia’s most advanced drone warfare formations, heavily funded and equipped by the Kremlin to support its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Using intelligence-gathered coordinates, Ukrainian operatives launched an FP-2 drone carrying a 105-kilogram warhead, successfully navigating through the densely built-up area to hit the target precisely.
The attack reportedly resulted in the elimination of several Russian officers and drone operators from the Rubicon unit.
The strike marks a significant blow to Russia’s aerial reconnaissance and drone strike capabilities in the region. It follows a series of successful Ukrainian operations targeting key Russian military infrastructure and elite units, including a recent Ukrainian Navy attack on Russian special forces stationed on a Black Sea drilling platform.
As the war grinds on, Ukraine continues to leverage advanced drone technology and military intelligence to degrade Russia’s ability to project power from occupied territories.
